Plum blossoms- a sign of spring

Plum blossoms- a sign of spring
Every spring people all throughout Japan get excited at this time of year for the first of two special flower viewing (hanami) occasions. The ume, or Japanese plum tree, is admired for flowering every year in February despite the continuing cold weather. This week the plum trees in Kyoto are finally in full bloom, and many people are visiting local shrines and parks where these trees are planted, to enjoy the beauty of their delicate white and pink blossoms.

Ippodo Original Travel Flask
One hanami tradition in Japan is to bring a set of picnic supplies along to enjoy some tea under the trees, while gazing at the flowers. You can try this too, by using this travel flask to carry hot water with you, and whisking matcha at a picnic (no-da-te style). Or, you can make shaken matcha directly in the flask by sifting your matcha into it, adding cold water, and giving it a shake.
